Outil de sélection partcipative des arbres sur l’ile d’ Anjouan. Guide de facilitation

This facilitation guide provides a three-step approach to support participatory tree selection and management with individual farmers or groups of farmers or land owners. The toolkit combines a detailed facilitation guide for two workshops to be conducted with small groups of farmers and an electronic reasoning tool to support decision making in different context. The first workshop focuses on the participatory evaluation of key products and services through a scoring activity using picture cards to elicit and record which are the most important for the group members and to stimulate discussion. The groups’ scoring results are linked to the tree data base operating in power-bi which contains information on species products and services, agroecological zones, origin and potential invasiveness. Based on the priority product and service score results of different groups and other filters, the tree selection app generates lists of trees that are likely to be appropriate for particular people and places. The last step is then to go back to the farmers group for another workshop aiming to facilitate a scoring exercise with tree species. Locally prioritised species are then fed back into discussions with nursery leaders and into the planning process and seasonal objectives for tree planting campaigns.
