Kenya Forest and Landscape Restoration Monitoring Framework
Land degradation is a global issue that disproportionately affects the poor and marginalized communities in least developed countries, with serious implications such as widespread poverty and food insecurity.9,10 Between 1 to 6 billion hectares of landscapes globally are degraded,8 significantly affecting the livelihoods and health of millions of people. In Kenya, more than 30 percent of the country’s land mass is estimated to be severely degraded, costing the Kenyan economy at least 3 percent of GDP annually (estimated around USD 390 million11) and an estimated USD 1.3 billion per year between 2001-2009.
