Business Transformation Labs: A co-creation process for land-based investors to build inclusive business models

This publication explains how Business Transformation Labs (BTLs), developed under the Transformative Land Investment (TLI) programme, help companies address operational risks arising from complex social, environmental, and governance conditions surrounding land-based investments. Challenges such as community grievances, insecure land tenure, environmental degradation, regulatory delays, and increasing Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) expectations can significantly affect business performance. BTLs provide a structured co-creation process that enables companies to better understand stakeholder dynamics, improve coordination, reduce risks, and strengthen business resilience. By focusing on relationships, governance systems, and collaborative problem-solving, BTLs support more sustainable, inclusive, and commercially viable land-based investments.
