The potential of Inga species for improved woody fallows and multistrata agroforests in Peruvian Amazon basin

This chapter illustrates the potential of Inga species for use in improved fallows and multistrata agroforestry systems in the Amazon basin drawing upon research experience in Peru. It focuses on Inga edulis in the Peruvian Amazon because it is a priority agroforestry tree species and there is a considerable research experience with the species in Peru. The chapter has four sections: functions of improved woody fallows and multistrata agroforests; farmers uses of I. edulis in these systems; research on I. edulis for these systems and selection of Inga species for these systems.
