Slash-and-burn effects on carbon stocks in the humid tropics

This chapter presents summary data on carbon stocks in forests and slash-and-burn land use systems from nine sites of the alternative to slash-and-burn project, located in Brazil, Cameroon, Indonesia and Peru. This data can be used to calculate the immediate and longer term loss of carbon with slash-and-burn clearing and to take carbon stocks into account in multiple goal evaluation of existing and proposed land use systems.
