Quantification of village level agroforestry biodiversity according to management units and its livelihood functions in three villages of the Segou region, Mali

Recent decades have not been kind to the Sahelian landscape or the people who inhabit this band of semi-arid land that stretches from Senegal in the west to Chad in the east. Its nothern edge is being pushed southwards as the sands of the Sahara desert swallow up vast tracts of formerly arable land. And as repeated droughts hit this fragile Sahelian buffer separating desert from savannah lands further south, the flora and fauna of the Sahel suffer. Inevitably, so do the people
