Methods for quantification of root distribution pattern and root dynamics in the field

As the root system in its size, distribution and dynamical pattern forms an important link between lanD an soil , the current trend of diver-sing more efficient fertilization techniques requires thorough knowledge of roots (Van Noordwijk and Dewilligen [1986]. Classical techniques for excavation and study of roots have been described extensively (schuurman and Goedewaagen [1971]; Bohm [1978]; in this paper new additions to the method swill be discussed
